Once you have made that inner commitment to seek out a Reiki class in order to learn more for yourself and others, you will have many questions that need answering. There may be some unease in your mind that you need cleared up before you make the final decision of wanting to administer Reiki. You do not have to be a practitioner, or in the medical field, everyday people are attending classes each day.
So let’s just start at the beginning.
What do you do in Reiki classes?
First and foremost, you must decide for yourself what type of class you would like to use in order to begin your path to Reiki enlightenment.
- Does a weekend or evening class a few days at a time fit your schedule better? or
- Would you prefer a full weekend retreat away from it all to help with your relaxation and focus?
Once you start looking around, you will find many different types of classes that are geared towards different people’s schedules and needs. You will be sure to find one that will suit you.
There are many things that your Reiki Master will teach you during your time together. As a basic foundation, you are taught the 5 principles of Reiki:
- Just for today do not worry
- Just for today do not be angry
- Honor your parents, teachers and all the elders
- Learn how to earn a living honestly
- Be kind to your neighbor and in every living thing
There are 3 Levels in Reiki. The first level is when you attend class to learn the basic hand positions and the sacred symbols in order to perform direct healing over others. During the second level, you can teach others the symbols and hand positions in order to practice distance or absentee healing. With the third level, the Reiki healers can make a serious commitment on the outside universal energy power and beyond. This is the highest stage for a Reiki teacher and they are referred to as a Reiki Master.
Some might find a great dissention between training methods of different Reiki Masters. Since there is no regulation of Reiki, what do you do in Reiki class? It is typically up to the teacher to decide how they will approach the learning curve. Some may wait up to a year or more before being able to advance to the 2nd or 3rd levels of Reiki while some Reiki Masters will cover all 3 levels in one weekend.
During your first classes you will learn how to access Reiki for your own use as well as for others, the background and history of Reiki, positive feedback for extending your own Reiki practice and other techniques that may be helpful to you in your overall acquaintance with your newfound knowledge. Anyone can be turned to Reiki and use it effectively.
You can be sure to find the effective ways for directing energy through basic healing patterns and laying hands. If you have a teacher who is confident enough in your ability, you can be shown how to use absentee healing where you can practice Reiki on someone from a long distance using only their picture or name on a piece of paper through a Reiki symbol. There are a couple various ways that will be taught in your 1st level, that one can lay hands on a subject to perform Reiki.
Do not feel unrest at your ability to learn Reiki. Many others before you have managed to obtain this wonderful gift. With a solid commitment, you will be well equipped to confidently be able to perform Reiki on yourself and others in no time at all.
