Reiki symbols in general are secret treasures of a sort. They are symbols that are suppose to be kept hidden from the masses so that impostors do not take the symbols and use them when they shouldn’t. Most often these secret symbols are given to the students as they begin their second level of Reiki training. Though there are various books and sites on the internet where you can see what the Reiki symbols are and discover there meaning, what you may not find is the way to draw them.
The Reiki symbols are rather transcendental. The purpose of the Reiki symbols is to access the life force directly. This then allows for a change to take place in the way the energy works, separate from that of the internal state of the Reiki practitioner. Probably the most interesting part of drawing Reiki symbols is the fact that it is not only done with paper and pen.
The drawing of the Reiki symbols can be done on paper, in the air with your hand, through visualization or by saying each of their names out loud or to yourself. The focus of the “drawing” of the Reiki symbols is really the intent behind the invocation. This means that really you can “produce” the Reiki symbol simply through your intent to use it. Some students and master are able to access the life force tied to each symbol by just focusing on the energy that is linked to the symbol.
Important to note that the effectiveness of the each symbol stems from the Reiki attunement that students go through in their training. When the student goes through the attunement process the energy associated with the symbol enters the student’s mind and body, this then links them to the correct symbol in their mind. This makes it so that every time a student uses that particular symbol that energy is then activated and starts to flow.
The secrecy of the symbols serves two purposes. One is that secrecy is one way to honor sacredness. The Reiki symbols are not symbols like the peace sign or a stop sign, there is power and energy associated with them. The second reason for the secrecy of the symbols is for metaphysical reasons. The secrecy allows for a certain type of power in the symbols and allows for a greater connection to the symbols.
The Reiki symbols alone have no power with out the attunement process. So the secrecy of the symbols is actually more beneficial to the student, that way they are linking to the energy correctly and not entering in with preconceived notions of what each symbol harnesses. Seeing the symbols before going through the Reiki attunement can lead to false empowerment as well. The student may think that now just because they know the symbol they do not need to continue their education.
Lastly the power of the symbol does not come from the way it is drawn. So there really isn’t a right or wrong way to draw the Reiki symbols. The power comes from the link that is made between student and symbol during the attunement process. The symbols that your Reiki Master will give to you are the correct Reiki symbols for you to use.

Quick Reiki Tip #2
Interested in getting a Reiki attunement or in becoming a Reiki practitioner? Check out the credentials of the practitioner or school. As a rule of thumb, the more established the school or practitioner is, the more likely you are to receive the full knowledge and power of Reiki. |
Quick Reiki Tip #3
Reiki healing is an ancient Japanese technique for promoting better health. Usually administered by physical contact with the hands. It is based on the idea that energy flows through humans. When that force is low, humans are at a greater risk for illness or disease. When the force is elevated, individuals are happier and healthier. |
